The Creamery Reuse Study, Alberta

Project Overview

Introduction

The Town of Okotoks required design options for a .8-hectare parcel of land (referred to as the Creamery Site) to be considered for future development. The site, which is close to the town’s downtown area, was once a dairy farm that burnt down in a 2015 fire.

Project Summary

Nadi Group conducted a study to determine what the best use of the vacant land would be. We then hosted a public engagement session with key stakeholders to gather design ideas and draw out the critical site and programmatic requirements, setting the evaluation criteria that would help determine the best design solution. Through the public engagement session, we identified four programmatic themes: a commercial and residential development, a public park and pavilion or a development dedicated to new technologies and sustainable research. We further explored and developed these ideas, evaluating their potential and referencing the criteria that the stakeholder’s established for the project.

Our Role

Through the studies and public engagement sessions, we determined that a theatre (Performance Park) would be the most desirable option for the land and fit best with the needs of the Okotoks’ community. We then put forth our choice to Town Council to assess.
