Red River College, Manitoba

Project Overview

Introduction

As the urban design lead, Smith Carter Architects & Engineers retained Nadi Group to help them create a master plan for Red River College’s Downtown campus.

Project Summary

We researched and identified which of the college’s programming would benefit from moving to the downtown campus—within a predefined precinct—and presented our financial analysis of those opportunities to the client. Other considerations we identified and presented included a review and preservation strategy of the historic streetscapes in the precinct and a study of pedestrian activity on campus.

We consulted with college stakeholders, student representatives and the design team, which we compiled into a comprehensive document that included our analysis and conclusions for the master plan. We recommended a site that is within a three-minute walking radius of the precinct and can accommodate the college’s programs and providing students, staff and instructors with a pedestrian favored urban campus.

Our Role

As part of a multi-disciplinary team, our role consisted of assisting Smith Carter with the development of the master plan. Our common objective for this project aimed to set out criteria for growth and provide a framework for the college to make educated responses to real estate acquisition opportunities.
