Shaheed Bhagat Singh Park, Manitoba
Project Overview
Introduction
Manitoba Housing enlisted Nadi Group on behalf of the City of Winnipeg, to incorporate Landfill 24 into the overall master plan for Bridgwater Trails—an emerging neighborhood in southwest Winnipeg. The city experienced increased growth in this area, requiring additional recreational spaces to address residents’ needs. According to the city, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Park is one of the largest urban prairie parks in Winnipeg.
Project Summary
Our experience in landfill reuse, repurposing and redesign made us the perfect choice to turn the decommissioned landfill into a viable, recreational public space. We included native prairie grasses and trees, dedicating over 35-acres of land to sustainable native plantings for residents (and Winnipeggers) to enjoy while using the meandering trails. For sports-minded residents, we integrated various sports activities into the park, such as bocce ball, volleyball, basketball, baseball and Ultimate Frisbee.
Our Role
Nadi Group provided landscape architecture services for each phase such as creating the schematic design, finalizing the design development, tendering construction documents and performing contract administration.
