Bridgwater Architectural Approvals, Manitoba

Project Overview

Introduction

Manitoba Housing contracted the Nadi Group to create guidelines that ensured a cohesive and diversified neighborhood fabric for the three neighborhoods of Bridgwater in Winnipeg, Manitoba. The client envisioned a complete community that combined traditional architecture with forward-thinking livability. We took inspiration from Calgary’s new urbanist style neighborhoods: Garrison Woods and Garrison Green; and traveled with the client to these areas, developing a refined image database that reflected the vision.

Project Summary

The ‘Clear and Singular Identity’ identified for the three residential neighborhoods of Bridgwater is ‘Traditional Renaissance’. We designed the streetscape with a traditional town feeling and focused on creating park vistas, incorporating accessible recreational trails and playgrounds while using sustainable plantings for tree-lined streets and boulevards. We ensured minimums for visitable housing, restrictions on garage placement to encourage the use of front porches and patios, and direction on landscape materials. The guidelines also clearly identify developer and house builder responsibilities and cohesive standards for the construction of fencing, street lighting, sidewalks and pathways.
